Bill McVitty Opposes the Use of Campaign Signs
In an effort to reduce pollution and the eye sore of lawn signs throughout Oceanport, Bill McVitty has
decided against using signs in his campaign. After last year, the residents of Oceanport demanded that campaign signs no
longer be used, and Oceanport Democrats listened. We can only hope that the Republicans choose to do the same.
Below is a letter from Chairman Paul Newell, urging the Republicans to adopt this policy.

Will:
I am the Chairman of the Democratic Committee in Oceanport.
We are at a point where we must make certain decisions concerning campaign materials.
One of our decisions concerns "lawn signs". Last year, we had a lot of negative reaction to the use of
campaign "lawn signs". Some referred to it as "eye pollution" and others considered it little more than
"littering".
It has been suggested that we voluntarily forego the use of "lawn signs", and the Oceanport Democrats are in
favor of abandoning the practice here in Oceanport.
Accordingly, I, as Chairman of the Oceanport Democratic Committee, am advising you that the Oceanport
Democrats will not be using "lawn signs" during this campaign. (Of course, this will free up more of our
campaign funds for mailings and other activities !)
Our candidate, Bill McVitty, has endorsed this decision and will abide by it.
Obviously, you are under no obligation to do likewise. However, if you would agree to refrain from the use
of "lawn signs", the whole "eye pollution - littering" matter becomes a non-issue. Without question,
neither of the local committees can control what the county, state or federal candidates may do, but we can
choose not to participate in the practice, and we are so choosing.
If you have any questions about our intentions, please call me at my cell at (732) 996----- or at my home
at (732) 544-----.
PAUL E. NEWELL,
Chairman
Oceanport Democratic Committee
